We are so delighted to announce that Oceans Without Borders’ (OWB) Leonardo (Leo) Gungulo, has been shortlisted for the African Conservation Awards, and is a finalist in the Best Game Ranger category.
Born and raised along Mozambique’s tropical coastline, Leo was drawn to the ocean from a young age. Following an early grounding in community-conservation development, and several years as a qualified scuba instructor, 2018 found Leo heading up the dive center on Vamizi Island (Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique) and working collaboratively with the OWB team, before joining them officially as a marine ranger.
In his current role as field ranger and support manager for the Vamizi and Benguerra Island ranger teams, Leo brings a wealth of experience and mentorship to the key touch points of marine research, monitoring, community engagement and relationship building.
Leo has also been participating in the Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2022 to help raise critical funds for marince conservation. To support visit: https://wildlife.rangerchallenge.org/campaigns/africa-foundation?fbclid=IwAR2pYxjV_Xk3VCppmJYJnVPBTvuwhsD5qLcdeArmntunfuEmyb2ViHUerWY
