Listening to the underwater world ?

Today’s #fridaysmiles come from Leo and Joseph, who last week deployed 4 underwater microphones, called hydrophones, into the waters of the Bazaruto Archipelago around Benguerra Island.

This is part of a project run by the Oceans Without Borders (OWB) team to ‘eavesdrop’ on the underwater world, in a process called Passive Acoustic Monitoring. This enables the team to monitor the health of coral reefs, study the behaviors of marine animals such as whales and dolphins, and assess the impacts of noise pollution.
